Tehran, IRNA – Libya’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadiq al-Ghariani has warned that the presence of foreign troops in Arab countries brings instability and makes those nations targets, while calling on Muslims to support Iran amid the ongoing military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime.
According to Libya’s Al-Tanasuh network’s page on X on Saturday, al-Ghariani reacted to the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran, urging Muslims to stand by the Islamic Republic, citing teachings by the holy Quran.
“There is no concept of neutrality in the Quran. As long as war exists between Muslims and non-Muslims, supporting Muslims is a religious duty,” he said.
The Libyan cleric went on to say that one of the lessons of the current war is that “arrogant powers, no matter how strong, will have to pay the price,” adding that the US president is now calling on countries around the world to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, which al-Ghariani said reflects a sense of desperation.
He emphasized that Muslims should take heed of these developments and seek dignity only through obedience to God and His Prophet.
Al-Ghariani also warned that the presence of US forces has led to attacks on countries that believed they would be protected by Washington, concluding that “honor belongs to God, His Messenger, and believers.”
The US and the Israeli regime launched their joint military aggression on Iran on February 28, following their previous war in June last year. Both conflicts were launched as Tehran was in the midst of diplomatic talks with Washington over its peaceful nuclear program.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike targeting his residence and office in Tehran on the first day of the ongoing aggression.
In response, Iran launched precise strikes against Israeli positions and US bases, citing its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warned that further escalation will invite a harsher reaction.
Iran has also maintained control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil passes, emphasizing that the key waterway is closed only to the aggressors and their allies.
