Tehran, IRNA – Thousands of anti-war activists and human rights campaigners have staged demonstrations in London and Madrid over the weekend, condemning the United States and the Israeli regime for military aggression against Iran and calling for an immediate end to the conflict.
In London, protesters from diverse backgrounds, including British citizens, Iranians and Muslims of different nationalities, marched through central streets, carrying Iranian flags and placards reading “Stop the Bombing, Hands Off Iran,” and “Stop the War.”
The rally began in Russell Square before moving toward Whitehall, home to the British prime minister’s office and several government ministries. Organizers said the demonstration was the third consecutive week of protests in support of Iran.
The protest was backed by dozens of organizations, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the Palestinian Forum in Britain, Friends of Al‑Aqsa, Stop the War Coalition, and the Muslim Association of Britain. In a joint statement, they described the attacks on Iran as a brutal assault and warned that continued hostilities could deepen instability across the West Asia region.
Madrid protesters denounce war on Iran
In the Spanish capital, Madrid, around 4,000 people staged a protest, chanting “No to War,” calling for peace and de-escalation in the region. Demonstrators also carried banners with anti‑war slogans and criticized foreign intervention.
Irene Montero, a member of the European Parliament from Spain’s Podemos Party, attended the rally and urged the Spanish government to reconsider its NATO membership and demand the withdrawal of US forces from Spanish bases.
Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has also publicly stated that Spanish bases should not be used for offensive operations against Iran, summarizing his position with a simple message: No to war.
The US and the Israeli regime launched their joint military aggression on Iran on February 28, following their previous war in June last year. Both conflicts were launched as Tehran was in the midst of diplomatic talks with Washington over its peaceful nuclear program.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike targeting his residence and office in Tehran on the first day of the ongoing aggression.
In response, Iran launched precise retaliatory strikes against Israeli positions and US bases, citing its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warned that further escalation will invite a harsher reaction.
Iran has also maintained control of the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil passes, emphasizing that the key waterway is closed only to the aggressors and their allies.
