Quran activists from about 50 countries have announced readiness to take part in this year’s edition of the Dubai international Quran competition for women.
It will be the 5th edition of the international Quranic event.
Ibrahim Bu Milha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and chairman of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA), said the competition will kick off in the UAE city on Saturday, November 20, al-khaleej.ae website reported.
Noting that the number of participants may rise in the coming days, he said the contenders will start arriving in Dubai on Wednesday.
Quran experts from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia and Pakistan will form the panel of judges, Bu Milha said.
He added that another panel of experts will assess the Quranic skills of the contenders in an initial exam to make sure they are qualified to take part in the main Quranic event.
Participants should be 25 years old or younger and be memorizer of the entire Quran with mastery over the rules of Tajweed.
The DIHQA annually organizes the international Quranic event for women. Last year it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Representatives of 68 countries competed in this edition of the international Quran contest, which was held in 2019.
